As part of the City’s ongoing downtown parking pilot program, Roswell is updating its on-street parking rate structure for City-managed, downtown locations. Beginning August 1, 2026, the first two hours of parking will be available at no charge from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily.

After the first two no-charge hours, the rate will be $3 per hour, increasing incrementally up to a daily maximum of $24. This change affects on-street parking at the following locations:

    • Canton Street between Magnolia Street and Norcross Street
    • Elizabeth Way between Canton Street and Alpharetta Highway
    • East Alley between Canton Street and Norcross Street
    • East Alley Parking Lot

In addition, the City will designate two 30-minute, no-charge parking spaces on Elizabeth Way for visitors who want to make a quick stop at a local business.

These changes will make it easier for visitors to downtown Roswell to enjoy the City’s wonderful shops and restaurants during peak morning and midday hours.

    Balancing the Rate Change

The adjusted hourly rate is increasing from $2 to $3 per hour. This rate applies after the first two hours during the no-charge window (8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and during all times outside of the no-charge window. Revenue collected from the on-street parking will help the City to establish a sustainable downtown parking system, which will benefit both businesses and residents.

These changes are taking place as part of the City’s parking pilot program. Running through December 31, 2026, the pilot program is designed to help the City gather real data on parking demand and usage patterns. This information will inform longer-term strategies to balance access, demand, and sustainability.

No-Charge Parking in New Deck Continues During Construction

The City will continue to offer no-charge parking at its new deck between Green Street and Alpharetta St. (SR9) during active construction on Green Street. The deck, located at 1056 Alpharetta Street (SR 9), opened in early May and added 394 parking spaces to support downtown businesses, events, and the continued growth of the area. Early usage data is strong and shows that residents and visitors are taking advantage of the additional parking capacity.

    Frequently Asked Questions: On-Street Parking

(Updated to reflect status and rates as of Aug. 1, 2026)

How do I register and pay to park in a paid parking area?

There are two available methods to pay for your parking in Downtown Roswell:

Scan/Text to Pay through your phone: Signage near your parking space will have a QR code to scan as well as a phone number to text from your mobile device. You will be prompted to enter your license plate number and estimated duration of stay to start your session. Once you enter your information, you will be led to a payment screen to purchase your parking.

Payment Kiosk: There are two payment kiosks (at the corner of Canton Street & Elizabeth Way and along East Alley) where you can physically make your payment at a machine. Once at the machine, press “Start” and follow the instructions for payment, which will include entering your license plate number and selecting your estimated duration of stay.

Do I need to download an app to register and pay to park?

There is no need to download an app to your phone. Follow the payment instructions on the signage near your parking space and utilize the scan-to-pay or text-to-pay options, or pay at one of the two payment kiosks.

I am just running into a store for a few minutes; do I still have to register and pay to park?

Yes. All vehicles parked in a paid parking area of downtown Roswell must be registered for parking and have an active parking session, regardless of the duration of your stay or the hour in which you arrive.

For the convenience of those who want to make a quick stop at a local business, the City is designating two 30-minute, no-charge parking spaces on Elizabeth Way. These spaces do not require an active parking session.

What happens if I stay longer than anticipated?

If you have begun a parking session on your phone using the Scan/Text to Pay system, as your parking session approaches expiration, you will receive a text message with the option to extend the time directly by clicking a link from the text. A guest who has opted not to receive text messages would need to scan the original QR code to modify or extend their parking session, or call (678) 973-0348 for additional assistance.

If you registered at one of the two payment kiosks, you would need to return to the kiosk to purchase additional time.

If I park between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and think I won’t stay longer than two hours, do I still have to start a parking session? How does the no-charge parking period work?

Yes, a parking session must be started even during the no-charge period. Vehicles that are parked between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. receive the first two hours at no charge, with the hourly rate applying after that. If a vehicle begins a parking session prior to 8:00 a.m., they would be charged $3/hour each hour before 8:00 am. Once the no-charge period begins, the subsequent two hours would be free. Vehicles that begin parking after 3:00 p.m. are subject to the full hourly rate from the start of their session.

What are the parking rates in paid parking areas of Downtown Roswell?

For vehicles that begin parking BETWEEN 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.:
    0–2 hours: No Charge
    2–3 hours: $3
    3–4 hours: $6
    4–5 hours: $9
    5–6 hours: $12
    6-7 hours: $15
    7-8 hours: $18
    More than 8 hours: $24

For vehicles that begin parking BEFORE 8:00 a.m. or AFTER 3:00 p.m.:
    0–1 hours: $3
    1–2 hours: $6
    2–3 hours: $9
    3–4 hours: $12
    4–5 hours: $15
    5–6 hours: $18
    More than 6 hours: $24

If your parking session begins before the no-charge period starts and rolls into the no-charge period, then the next two hours of your parking session will be free. Payment for your parking session will continue at the conclusion of the second free hour.
