The renewal of a county-wide transportation tax that has been in effect since 2016 and has supported major transportation improvements throughout the region will be determined by voters this fall. In early August, Fulton County Commissioners voted unanimously to place the 2026 renewal of the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) on the Nov. 3, 2026, ballot. This milestone moves new transportation projects across 14 Fulton County cities one step closer to a public vote, including 18 proposed projects specifically for the City of Roswell.
What is TSPLOST?
TSPLOST stands for Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. Simply put, it’s a sales tax that is paid on taxable goods and services in Fulton County (with the exception of the City of Atlanta, which has its own transportation tax).
The 0.75% tax is equal to three-quarters of one cent and is paid by anyone who buys taxable products or services in Fulton County, outside of City of Atlanta limits. This includes tourists, visitors, businesses, and residents.
First approved by voters in 2016 and renewed in 2021, TSPLOST has funded a wide range of transportation improvements throughout Fulton County, including in Roswell, over the past decade. All TSPLOST funds are used specifically for transportation improvements, and each sales tax is in place for five years.
What is the Proposed 2026 TSPLOST Renewal?
If approved by Fulton County voters on November 3, the five-year renewal would continue the existing 0.75% sales tax (three-quarters of a cent on every taxable dollar spent in Fulton County outside the City of Atlanta) through March 2032.
County officials estimate the 2026 renewal would generate more than $650 million countywide for transportation projects.
For Roswell specifically, TSPLOST 2026 is projected to generate $85 to $95 million over five years, funding a list of 18 proposed projects approved for submission to Fulton County by Mayor and City Council on May 26, 2026.
The projects span three broad categories: Operations and Safety, Pedestrian and Bicycle Projects, and Citywide Programs/Project Management.
Priority projects in Tier 1 of Roswell’s proposed list include the East Roswell Loop Multi-Use Trail, the Bridge Repair Program, Citywide Resurfacing, corridor improvements on Nesbit Ferry Road and Hembree Road, and rehabilitation of the Vickery Creek Trail, among others.

Confirm you are registered in Fulton County and find your polling place at My Voter Page. The voter registration deadline is October 5, 2026.
Vote Early
Early voting runs October 13 through October 30, 2026. You can vote early at any Fulton County early voting location during this period.
Vote on Election Day
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Vote at your assigned polling location.
Please Note: The vote is a county-wide referendum (excluding the City of Atlanta). If the majority of voters in Fulton County (outside Atlanta) vote in favor, TSPLOST 2026 will pass even if the majority of Roswell voters vote against it. If voters do not approve the renewal, TSPLOST would not be extended beyond March 2027 when the current program expires, and the proposed 2026 projects would not receive TSPLOST funding.
