City of Roswell Celebrates Completion of Roswell Area Park Pond Improvements

The City of Roswell celebrated the completion of the Roswell Area Park Pond Improvements project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 10, at Roswell Area Park.

City leaders, staff and community members gathered at the newly improved pond to commemorate the approximately $3.1 million project, funded through Roswell’s voter-approved 2022 Bond Program, and officially welcome the community back to the area.

The ceremony celebrated the transformation of the pond and the completion of nearly a year of construction to address aging infrastructure, improve the pond’s long-term function and enhance the surrounding natural environment.

Major work included dredging the pond, reconstructing the embankment, upgrading stormwater infrastructure, installing new pond forebays, improving retaining walls and the trail around the pond, and completing new landscaping and habitat improvements. Thirty-five (35) new trees were also planted throughout the project area.

Native and aquatic plants were added around the pond, along with logs that provide habitat for turtles and other wildlife.

Turtles and frogs began naturally returning to the pond even as construction was nearing completion.

What’s Next: Fish Restocking

With construction complete, the City will move forward with a phased fish restocking process. Approximately 15,000 fish are planned to be introduced over time as the pond stabilizes, and the fish population becomes established.

While visitors can enjoy the renewed pond and surrounding area, fishing remains temporarily restricted. Fishing is currently anticipated to resume in late summer or fall 2027.
